****Wednesday, December 4, 2002****

Rest In Peace Matt

We Love You

Matt passed away this morning.

I don’t understand it… I just don’t.

He was truly the sweetest, most caring person I had ever met.

He was nice to everyone, no matter what.

How…. Could God do such a thing to such a wonderful person?

Why…. In a world lacking wonderful people, would he take him from this earth?

*sigh*

I will never forget the last time I saw him… spoke to him…

It was Friday, November 22, 2002.

He sat in his hospital bed, extremely pale, extremely skinny.

I knew things weren’t looking good when he told me that he had been in the hospital for 5 weeks already.

I think he knew that things weren’t looking good as well.

But he always smiled, and though I know he was frightened deep down, he managed never to show it… not once.

We talked about school…

He was a straight A+ student.

We talked about college…

His dream school was Duke.

He wanted to be a doctor, to help people, just as he had been helped.

He would have made a great doctor, always smiling, with a genuine care for people.

We talked about him going home that Wednesday for thanksgiving.

He was so excited to be able to see his brother… his family… to be home.

He was the type of person that the world lacks…

And that is a great pity.

We’ll miss you, Matt.

You truly were one of a kind.

But we know you’ll be in heaven… watching down on us always… and forever.

always,

Ruby
